My grandfather, Giovanni Bottino immigrated to the United States in 1893. He eventually ended up in Castle Gate Utah. He was a coal miner. My father James Bottino was born in 1902.Paul Bottinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06666674752115100847noreply@blogger.comBlogger13125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4743105417818882717.post-44227276371782288942014-03-15T10:42:00.001-07:002014-03-15T10:42:34.015-07:00In my very first post in this blog, I reported who my great grandparents were, and guessed their birth dates. As a result of my good friend Dave Biasi, who actually went to the parish in Forno Canavese and photographed their actual birth and death records, I can now report, the actual birth and death dates of my great grandparents.
Geo Dominico Bottino, born 17 November 1834, and died 4 May 1882.
Veronica Milano, born 19 April 1838, and died 5 Jun 1881.

Geo Domenico Bottino, nato 17 NOVEMBRE 1834, e morì 4 maggio 1882.
Veronica Milano, nato 19 Aprile 1838, e morì 5 Giugno 1881.Paul Bottinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06666674752115100847noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4743105417818882717.post-73354906336781992832013-04-21T09:25:00.001-07:002013-04-21T09:29:25.368-07:00I have not added to this blog in a long time. I just found this picture of the Bottino children here in Utah. The girl is my Aunt Vera, who later married Victor Litizzette, my father, and my Uncle Mike, (Lawerence) who married Mel Taylor. My dad was born in 1902, so judging from the picture it was taken about 1910.
Fourty years for Italian genealogical research in one little book. This is a very inspiring story. FamilySearch launched a historic partnership with the National Archives
of Italy in December 2011 to digitally preserve and index its civil
registration records (birth, marriage, and death) for all states from
1802 to 1940. Since the project launch more than 24 million images have
been published, and 4 million names have been made searchable on FamilySearch.org.

But there are 115 million historic Italian documents with over 500
million names remaining to index and publish. Tens of thousands of
volunteers are needed. To meet this opportunity, FamilySearch is
requesting help from indexers and arbitrators who speak or read Italian
or a closely related language, such as Spanish, or who are willing to
learn a handful of simple Italian words and phrases to help facilitate
the initiative.

this valuable record set. Interested individuals, societies, or groups

Just this past weekend I was going through some old papers of my dad and came across a very old post card of Forno di Rivara. These two locations are very close together, and some of our family records say Rivara. For some time now we have been concerned about the relationship between these two locations. Recently an Italian researcher went there and reported the following: " Forno Canavese and Forno di Rivara are the same thing. The ancient name of the township is Forno di Rivara and was changed into Forno Canavese in 1926. For this reason all the ancient documents before 1926 report the name forno di Rivara. The parish was established in 1657 and for this reason the parish records just start in 1660. Before that date the records are in the Rivara parish that has not been microfilmed yet." This clears a lot of questions up for us. Below is a scan of the two post cards with Forno Canavese on the top.
This is my grandma, Noni Bottino, as I remember her. So this would have been taken around 1945 or so. She died in 1946. This picture is from a book entitled "Peoples of Utah" by Helen Z. Papanikolas. The story is that Noni Bottino hid a famous labor leader Mother Jones from a mob. They came to her house, Mother Jones was hiding in the bedroom. The mob ask Noni if she was hiding Mother Jones in her living room, and her answer was no. Later she said she always told the truth.
This is a picture of my grandparents, probably while they were very young. I would estimate perhaps the early 1900s. Geo.Battista Bottino, Angela Catharina Bottino (Pezze, or Pesetto).
Originally they came to Rockvale Colorado where he worked as a coal miner. But by 1898 they settled in Castle Gate Utah. This is where they raised their family. My father, James Bottino was born in 1902. I have a lot of family history of my grandmother, but almost nothing on my grandfather. His father's name was Dominico Bottino who was married to Domenica Veronica Milano. They remained in Italy. All I know about them is the years that they were born, 1841 and 1842. I am looking at records from Forno Canavese and Forno di Rivara but there is a gap in these records between 1837 and 1866. I would like very much to know the exact birth date of my great grandparents, as well as who their parents were. I have access to information back to 1700 and with the information on my great grand parents I could complete a very large family history. I would also like to collaborate with anyone else working in the Forno Canavase/Forno di Rivara area to complete this work.
Questo è dove hanno alzato la loro famiglia. Mio padre, Giacomo Bottino è nato

nonno. Il nome di suo padre si chiamava Domenico Bottino, che era sposato con
Veronica Domenica Milano. Sono rimasti in Italia. Tutto quello che so su di
loro è gli anni che sono nati, 1841 e 1842. Sto cercando di record da Forno

così come chi sono i loro genitori. Ho accesso a informazioni al 1700 e con le
